Charlotte Bolding, owner-operator of CBXCrossfit, is committed to showing her clients a healthy path, the Crossfit way. Having just completed a community nutrition challenge with her members, Charlotte goes on to explain the benefits of the philosophy and how it impacted her and the CBX crew.

We have recently finished a 6 week nutrition challenge in which we gave our members the answer to the ‘supposedly‘ incredibly complicated question of – ‘what should we eat in order to be maximally healthy‘.
As our members found out, it’s not so complicated after all and we simplified it into 8 words;
Eat real food. Not too much. Mostly plants.
The fact is nutrition is far, far more simple than we’re lead to believe. In the words of CrossFit founder Coach Greg Glassman: Eat meat, vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that support exercise but not body fat. We know that nutrition is the foundation of everything we do, it’s the key to performance, health and longevity. Fortunately, it is not nearly as complicated as you think. We provided our members with the necessary knowledge to change their lives. They are now equipped with all the tools needed to live out the rest of their lives being humble, hungry, happy people void of disease who will no doubt kick ass well into their 90’s. Just by eating real food, not too much and mostly plants whilst participating in constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity 5-6 times a week.
Now, just because we have cut out all artificial flavours and refined sugars doesn’t mean that real food can’t produce really yummy meals! In fact, here is one of my favourite recipes created to kick that sugar craving to the curve – give it a go!
Charlotte’s Fav Raspberry Raw Slice
• 12 medjool dates, pitted
• 1 cup raw nuts (either almonds, macadamias or cashews work well. You can use one type or a mixture)
• 1/3 cup raw organic cacao powder
• 3 tablespoons of Tanna Farms Certified Organic Coconut Oil
The Raspberry Layer
• 2 cups fresh organic raspberries
• 2/3 cup raw cashews or macadamias
• 4 tablespoons shredded organic coconut
• 6 tablespoons pure organic maple syrup
• 1 tablespoon Tanna Farms Certified Organic Coconut Oil for the melted chocolate Layer
• 1/3 cup Tanna Farms Certified Organic Coconut Oil
• 2 tablespoons pure organic maple syrup
• 1/3 cup raw organic cacao powder
The how to:
To make the base: add the base ingredients to a high-speed blender or food processor and blend until it resembles fine crumbs and sticks together when pressed. Spoon mixture into a lined slice tin and press down with the back of a spoon. Place it in the freezer.
To make the raspberry layer: blend all raspberry layer ingredients except the coconut oil in a high-speed blender until smooth. Add coconut oil and blend until well combined. Add to the base and smooth over with a spatula or back of a spoon and place into the freezer for at least 1 hour to set.
To make the chocolate layer: melt the coconut oil in saucepan on low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and add the maple syrup. Whisk briskly until well combined. Then add the cacao powder, stirring until well mixed through. Pour the chocolate on top of the raspberry layer. Place back into the freezer and let it set completely, approximately 1-2 hours.
You want to ensure that the slice has completely set, to allow for easier slicing. Remove from the tin, slice straight away and store in an airtight container in the freezer (I recommend the freezer as the raspberry layer softens easily).
